The optimal irradiation strength of infrared light per type of complaint
Part
Infrared light therapy is rapidly gaining popularity as an effective method for pain relief and promoting healing.
This therapy uses infrared light to penetrate deep into the skin and:
· To improve blood circulation
· To reduce inflammation
· To promote tissue repair
A crucial aspect of this therapy is the irradiance, which determines how intensively the light penetrates the skin.
At Mvolo we support innovative research by the LPO (National Pain Organisation) to ensure that more and more becomes known about ways to effectively combat pain.
In this text we will discuss what radiation intensity exactly is and which intensity is optimal for treating various complaints with infrared light.
What does irradiance mean?
Irradiance is also known as irradiance. This is the amount of energy received by a surface per unit of time. It is usually measured in milliwatts per square centimeter (mW/cm²).
In infrared light therapy, the irradiance is of great importance because it determines how much energy is actually absorbed by the body tissue. A higher irradiance means more energy in a shorter period of time. In other words, this leads to faster, more effective results.
However, the radiation intensity must be carefully adjusted to the specific complaint and the part of the body to be treated.
For example, too high radiation strengths lead to overheating and possible damage to the skin and underlying tissues. On the other hand, too low radiation strength will not have sufficient effect and will not lead to the desired relief of the complaints you experience. That is why it is so important to find the right balance.
In infrared light therapy we use different wavelengths of infrared light, ranging from short-wave (IR-A) to long-wave (IR-C). Each type of light penetrates the skin at different depths.
The optimal radiation intensity per type of complaint
Now it is high time to look at the optimal radiation strength per type of complaint. This way you can be sure that you get the right infrared lamp in your home when you are going to treat your personal complaints:
#1: Lower back pain
Lower back pain is a common complaint that responds well to infrared light therapy. For the treatment of lower back pain, we recommend an irradiation strength of 30-50 mW/cm².
This strength is enough to penetrate deep into the muscles and tissues and improve blood circulation. This is what will reduce your pain. Do this every day for 15 to 20 minutes to relieve your back pain.
#2: Shoulder Pain
Also all kinds of shoulder pain can be treated well with infrared light. A radiation strength of 25-40 mW/cm² is ideal for this area.
This strength ensures good penetration into the shoulder joints and muscles, for effective reduction of pain and stiffness. Using infrared light for 10-15 minutes per session is enough to provide pain relief after a few days.
#3: Fibromyalgia
Do you suffer from fibromyalgia? Then we recommend an irradiation strength of 20-30 mW/cm² for this condition. This is sufficient to relieve general pain without overloading sensitive skin. With a daily session of 15 to 20 you will reduce symptoms and improve your quality of life.
#4: Arthritis
For arthritis, we consider an irradiation strength of 40-60 mW/cm² to be optimal for treatment. This higher strength is needed to penetrate deep into the joints and effectively reduce inflammation. Use your infrared lamp for around 20 minutes a day to improve your mobility and relieve the pain you experience.
#5: Muscle pain
Do you have muscle pain as a result of a specific effort or a certain injury? Then infrared light with a radiation strength of 35-50 mW/cm² will be ideal for treating your muscle pain. Shorter sessions of about 10 minutes per day are enough to keep the muscle pain limited.
#6: Skin problems
Finally, it is very possible to treat skin problems (e.g. acne and eczema) with infrared light. For these superficial complaints, a lower radiation intensity of 10-20 mW/cm² is sufficient. This intensity is effective in reducing inflammation and promoting skin healing. Do infrared light therapy for 10 to 15 minutes every day for optimal results.
