Relieve shoulder complaints with infrared light

Shoulder problems often play a negative role in performing your daily activities. For example, you have to deal with pain when moving or even a constant nagging pain. These shoulder problems are common and are very frustrating for many people.

At Mvolo we do everything we can to provide you with the right tools to deal with these complaints. We also support the LPO (National Pain Organisation) to work towards permanent solutions for these problems.

Fortunately, there are several ways to partially address these complaints, including the use of infrared light.

Here we discuss the most common shoulder complaints, their causes and give you some effective tips to relieve the pain.

What types of shoulder complaints are there?

When it comes to shoulder problems, there are a lot of different types of complaints that people suffer from. You can probably identify with one or more of the following types of shoulder problems:

#1: Shoulder impingement

Shoulder impingement occurs when the muscles and tendons in the shoulder become trapped between different bones. This can lead to pain and a restriction of your freedom of movement. The symptoms that come with this generally consist of:

  • Pain when raising your arm
  • A nagging, constant pain in the shoulder
  • Loss of power

This type of complaint often occurs in people who work or play sports above their heads, such as swimmers and painters.

#2: Frozen Shoulder

A second, well-known shoulder complaint is frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). This is a condition in which the shoulder joint is stiff and painful.

This is usually a gradual process, with months or even years before the pain reaches its peak. The main associated symptoms are:

  • Severe pain
  • Movement restriction

This makes 'normal' daily activities such as dressing yourself or driving a car extra difficult. The exact cause is often unknown, but it often occurs together with diabetes, thyroid disorders or prolonged immobilization after an injury.

#3: Rotator Cuff Tendinitis

Then there is rotator cuff tendonitis as a major shoulder condition. This is an inflammation of the tendons in the shoulder. These tendons normally ensure that you are able to move and stabilize your arm.

However, if you are dealing with rotator cuff tendonitis, you will feel pain when lifting the arm (especially at night) and a feeling of weakness in the shoulder.

This condition is common in people who perform the same arm movements over a long period of time, such as when painting, lifting, or performing specific sports activities.

#4: Shoulder Dislocation

The last example of the most common shoulder complaints is the shoulder dislocation (or dislocated shoulder). This is an injury in which the upper arm shoots out of the shoulder socket.

It hurts a lot and often leads to:

  • A swelling
  • Bruises
  • A restriction of movement

This injury usually occurs due to a fall, a sudden movement, or a hard blow to the shoulder.

After a first dislocation, the chance of recurrence is greater, because you usually damaged the ligaments and muscles the first time it happened.

The cause of shoulder complaints

When we talk about the cause of shoulder pain, it is quite clear that certain causes are generally the main 'culprits' in the development of shoulder problems. Think of:

  • Overuse : Overuse is a common cause of shoulder complaints . Repeatedly performing the same movements (e.g. during sports or physical labor) leads to wear and tear of the tendons and muscles. These microtraumas then accumulate and eventually cause pain and inflammation. It is important to take regular rest and do exercises to strengthen and stretch the shoulders.
  • Poor posture : Poor posture, sitting and standing, is another major cause of shoulder pain. Sitting hunched over for long periods of time (e.g. behind your computer at the office) overloads the muscles in the shoulder and neck. This causes tension and pain.
  • Trauma : A third cause is specific trauma. The most important examples of this are a fall or a direct blow to the shoulder. It then varies from a simple bruise to a complex fracture or dislocation. Trauma often causes acute pain and swelling and usually requires immediate medical treatment.

3 tips to relieve shoulder pain

Are you dealing with shoulder pain yourself? Then of course you want nothing more than to solve it as quickly as possible or at least reduce it considerably. Fortunately, there are enough methods to achieve this:

  • Use infrared light : Infrared light therapy is an effective method to relieve shoulder pain. This type of light penetrates deep into the skin and stimulates blood circulation and cell regeneration. As a result, it reduces inflammation and promotes the healing of damaged tissue. Using Mvolo infrared lamps will significantly reduce pain and stiffness in the shoulder. Use the lamp daily for about 15 to 20 minutes on the painful area.
  • Physiotherapy : Physiotherapy also often plays a crucial role in resolving shoulder complaints. A physiotherapist sets up a specific exercise program that focuses on strengthening and stretching the shoulder muscles.
  • Ergonomic adjustments : Finally, adjusting your work environment is a smart move to reduce your shoulder pain. Make sure you have an ergonomic workstation with a properly adjusted office chair, a monitor at eye level and a keyboard and mouse at the right height. This will make it easier to sit in a good posture and prevent unnecessary strain.

So don't wait any longer than necessary and take the above measures today to significantly alleviate your shoulder complaints!
